There is an ancient coal power plant in Lisbon that I visit recurrently. It is now a museum and a remarkable piece of industrial archeology accessible to the general public. It shows the hard working conditions for labor in those early times of industrialization and the massive brutality of the machine, which seemed much untamed in those times. The history lessons come to my mind: The exploitation of cheap labor, the exodus from the rural lands to the cities… Are we doing much better now?
Social remarks apart, this ancient machinery has a distinctive beauty, carved in raw iron, steel and glass…
